The Personal Side of Your Brand

If there is one question I get from clients, it's "how can I get more reach with my social media pages? Can't I just post about my products (or services)? " and the answer is to stop selling on social media! The way to sell on social media is to NOT sell and you've probably heard me saying that over and over again on these posts. It's true, you have to think of your brand as someone's best friend on social media, while you may have that one friend that's ALWAYS selling you their LuLARoe Leggings (we all have that friend), most people on social media share what they eat, their big milestones, accomplishments, who inspired them, and much more. If your social media isn't getting the reach you want, it's time to start thinking about getting personal.

Putting a Face to the Brand!

Most people would use their CEO as "the face" to their brand, but sometimes brands use a mascot, like Tony the Tiger. However, if you, as a CEO, aren't comfortable in front of the camera, then you can choose another C-level executive or another "second man in charge" that likes the attention. You will have to make sure this face is the only face followers see. You can have some featured people here and there, but you have to make sure that it's relevant to the campaign you are running.

Share a Personal Story!

Now there's an idea! Write out or post a video of why you started your company. If you are a vegan cosmetics company, share a story of how the allergens in other cosmetic brands caused your skin to break out in a rash. If you are a personal trainer with your own fitness team, share a story about how you were inspired to help people with their weight loss goals cause your mom was sick. If you are a life coach or mental health professional, this is a great place to share your journey.

Talk About Your Day!

Share a story about the great day you had on your brand page. Did you have cupcakes in your office because it was someone's birthday? Did you have an amazing meeting with lots of goals that you know you are going to meet this year? Did you have a personal goal that you just met? Whatever the case, share your win! Even if you didn't have a win that day, explain why. It's so much more relatable to share your losses than wins guys. Personally, I like to talk to people about my bad days on social media. With all the wins people share, it'll be a nice break to see a CEO that's HUMAN like the rest of you.

Why Is This Important?

It's important for people to see the human side of your corporate brand because that's how many people (especially millennials), view brands. The brands that get the most engagement, like McDonald's for example, are the ones that put out relatable content. If you want to get your brand to that next level on social media, you will need to push that sort of content to your audience. Putting a personal spin on your products or services will allow your audience to see the human side of your brand. In turn, you might see an increase in sales with this particular strategy,

Pepper in the Sales!

On that same note, it's also important to let your audience know about the products or services that you sell. Go ahead, put that new skincare lotion you've been working on social media. Remember, if you want to really push that product, come up with some creative ways on social media. Crowdsourcing new flavors for food-related products on social media has become a HUGE trend. If you are new to the social game, it's important to remember that some of these people following you haven't really seen what you can do. SHOW THEM. If you are launching a product or service, you can create a group for free and really talk to these guys. Ask them what it is about your product or service that they really like. It's like your own little focus group! If they really like it, ask them to record a video testimonial and boom! There are five video testimonials you can use as ads for social media with a personal twist.
